Hello Mr. Policeman!

Yesterday, on my way to take Connor to my mom's for the weekend, we had the unfortunate experience of nearly being hit head-on by an older man who was driving southbound in the northbound lanes. It was actually a lot worse than just that, as he also was casually driving on the median strip for awhile, too. It was clear by the expression on his face he was disoriented. As I was in the process of calling 911 on my cell phone, I noticed a police car pulled off the road up ahead. It's always risky to pull alongside a cop when he's parked like that. The most important reason is they aren't expecting it and they sometimes panic.
Once I stopped and rolled down my window, I told him what was going on. He radioed for another car to track down the guy in the truck. In the meantime, we were asked to wait there with him. While we were waiting, my 3 year old was having quite the conversation with the policeman. I suspect it's probably the nicest conversation that cop had all day. Ever since my son had a cop visit his preschool, he's been fascinated with them. He asked question after question until the policeman finally informed us another officer had gotten the old man in the truck off the road and we were free to go. He told us thanks for stopping to let him know, and Connor replied "you're welcome, Mr. Officer. You drive safe now!" It was priceless. :)
