What a game!

What a game! I was on the edge of my seat there for awhile. How about that late third-period score by the USA? After a rally like that, I hated to see them lose. And poor Ryan Miller. That has got to hurt. It's why, at the end of the day, you really don't want to be the goalie sometimes. Both teams played well and both the USA and Canada should be really proud of their respective teams.


In a side note, the media sure missed the boat around here on fun stories. I know a few couples who are American-Canadian mixes besides me and Isaak, and it would have made one heck of a story seeing how they were cheering for their respective teams without letting it interfere with their relationships. I know for us, it was all in good fun. But for a few of our mixed friends....not so much.


Congratulations Team Canada, and congratulations to the players on Team USA. You all deserve to be proud!

Northern face off!

The US and Canadian men's hockey teams will face off today at 3 p.m. for Olympic Gold. Who are YOU rooting for? Well, if you live in the US, the obvious answer is probably the US, right? Well, my household will be divided about this one. With Isaak a Canadian, and Connor (who has made it clear that as a half Canadian, he's rooting for Canada), it could get ugly here. Whoever wins, I think we can all agree both teams have played well and made their respective countries proud. Good luck to both teams, and may the best one win!

Sunny St. Paul......

I'm not sure if Isaak is trying to cheer me up or make me madder than a cat getting a bath, but this is the picture he sent me of downtown St. Paul today.......sunny, nice and as you can see, far less snow than we have here in PA.

Still alive, really......

It's been awhile since I've blogged, but life has been pretty crazy. I've had a lot on my plate and very little time to accomplish it all. So I thought I'd do a little catch-up post.

As you can see from the above photo, we're getting more snow. Again. For the third time this month, we are being hit by a winter storm. I had 3 inches from yesterday when I went out to shovel today, and we've gotten another inch since then. We're supposed to get another 2-4 before it's all said and done tomorrow night. I'm kind of tired of all this snow. And the forecasters are saying another storm might be headed our way Wednesday night. Can anyone say spring? Please?

This was the view from my bedroom window after the last storm we had two weeks ago. As you can see, the icecicles stretched from my roof to the ground in places. I had to go out and knock them down after awhile because they became a hazard. What a job that was! I still have some ice in my gutters on the back of the house, but the rest of it has melted thanks to a few days without snow or ice and temps above freezing.

Connor has been getting a lot friendlier with our cat, Gabriel. And surprisingly, Gabriel has been tolerating it. Prior attempts by Connor to make nice with our cranky older cat have failed miserably. I'm glad to see them getting along better. Gabriel is a huge source of entertainment for Connor, which takes some of the pressure off me! :)

Connor and I have been doing some schooling at home to prepare him for the start of his new preschool in Bradfordwoods March 5. We've been doing a lot of writing and alphabet and numbers. He loves it. He sits for hours tracing over letters and words and trying to write them on his own. He does a pretty good job.

The dawn of the new ice age.....

I am seriously starting to wonder if we've embarqued on the next ice age or something. We got another 7 inches of snow yesterday, and it's snowing AGAIN today. The weatherman wasn't even calling for snow today. What is going on here?


And can you see the lovely pile of snow at the bottom of my driveway? I didn't put it there. The township did. I am really angry with them right now. I get that they have to dump the stuff somwhere, but in the righthand corner of my driveway? That pile was taller than me yesterday, and I had to use a metal shovel to shave some of it off the top and move it elsewhere. And wouldn't you know it, I had MORE on there today. This is ridiculous. I'd be happy to let them put it in the front yard if they had to, but I think it's beyond unacceptable for them to pile it in my driveway like that. Unbelievable.


I am so ready to move to Florida now..........

I may never move again.....

Well, the driveway and sidewalk are clear......but I may never move again. Ouch is not a strong enough word for how I feel today. Connor actually had to help me out of bed. Just me and a shovel yesterday and that was pretty hard on my body. I only got about 3/4 of my driveway cleared (width wise) because I just plain ran out of places to put the snow. It doesn't look like it's going to go anywhere anytime soon, either, with temperatures that aren't supposed to get out of the 20s all week. And what's this I hear about another 2-4 inches coming Tuesday night into Wednesday? For the love of Bob, Mother Nature, please turn off the snow machine already!

Snow storms and weddings......

Well, the picture above is my front yard. You can't even see my stairs. The news is saying we have 18 inches here in Gibsonia. I'm not sure where they did their measuring, but here in my yard, I have 26 inches. And it's still snowing! GAH!

This is off my back porch. There is a brick wall there you cannot even see anymore because the snow is that high. That wall is at least 3-4 feet high. I'm sure we've had some drifting back there, but if you measure the snow on top of the wall, it's 26 inches.

I had the presence of mind to go out and shovel the driveway and walk last night around 9:30 p.m. when Connor was asleep. I had roughly 7 inches then. I am so glad I did that, because it will make it much more manageable to do the rest of it today. I am just glad I don't have to go anywhere.

I feel horrible for my cousin, Nikki, who is getting married today. She is marrying a military man, and he is being shipped to a base in Hawaii soon. So they had to have the wedding now. Indiana County has declared a state of emergency, so probably many of the people who would have attended the wedding won't make it. But the show must go on, so they'll get by with what they have and hope for the best. I send them my love and wishes for a long and happy marriage. Mother Nature may have thrown you a punch today, but hang in there! It's not the flowers, the guests or even the pantyhose and hair-dos that make a wedding special. It's the person you marry. Keep that in mind, and nothing else matters!

Ordering some siblings.....

So a little while ago, Connor was nagging me for the umpteen millionth time to have a playdate with his friends, Brennan and Andrew. His friends happen to be brothers. I mentioned to him that we'd have one soon, but we had to wait until it was OK with their mommy. She is currently pregnant with baby #3, so I am sure she is tired a lot. When I told Connor this, he says, "well, mum, maybe I can get some brothers or sisters." I told him that we'd have to work on that and see what God decided. His response? "Why don't we just order some from pbskids.org?" Yeah, OK. I'll get right on that! LOL! :)
